What goes up must come down…….
Boot Camps are popping up faster than pimples on a teenager’s ass. For every one good Boot Camp program, there are ten that completely suck ass.
The Boot Camp surge has allowed plenty of shitty “trainers”/biz owners to legitimize themselves as self proclaimed fitness professionals. It seems like every A-hole in the world with a shitty certification and no experience is opening up shop. And that my friends, is what I call Boot Camp Overload.
The fact of the matter is Boot Camp programs are a fad, and they are everywhere. It is only a matter of time before “big box” gyms figure out what is going on. They will bastardize the model, and then undercut all the “little guys”.
I know you are reading this and saying….. “well, my program is different!”
Sorry Broski….. The average consumer has zero F’ing Clue. They couldn’t tell you the difference between boot camp and their B-hole’s.
Don’t get me wrong, customer service and creating your own tribe will set you apart if you are actually good at what you do! But if you put all your eggs in one basket, you will be very disappointed when boot camps take a nose dive in the next five years.
Now time for the good stuff!
The best way to prepare for the decline in boot camp income is to have multiple offerings. For example at my gym, Next Level Performance, we offer Athlete Performance Training, Semi-Private Personal Training, Small Group Personal Training, Workshops, Mastermind support groups, Pro Shop, and much more.
If you want to be the best you got to beat the best!
A few things you will need to diversify your business offerings are:
Big Risks get Big Rewards! Quit being an entitled pansy ass, and go earn it! You will be surprised what you will accomplish when your ass is on the line.
I’m not saying Boot Camps won’t be around, I’m just guaranteeing that there will be a distinct decrease in what people will be willing to pay for them. So you better learn quickly how to run a successful small group and Semi-Private Personal Training Business before it’s too late. And lucky for you, I might just have a special little something to share with you that will help you crush six figures in no time! Keep them eyes peeled ;-)!
Steve Krebs
Mr. Steve Krebs wtf are you talking about?
5 years? That shit started happening like 5 months ago!!
I get a shit ton of leads that say “well the gym offers it for free!”
But everything you are saying is true. I’m just saying the decline is already upon us and is killing many too quickly.
Once again Mr. Krebs you have nailed it my friend. The only way to avoid the decline in our business is what my man Dan Kennedy calls “Become Category of 1”
Which means create a new category that stands out from everyone else.
I also firmly believe we are all in the personality business.
Sam, nailed it.
I own 3300 square foot fitness facility and operate Boot Camps and other exercise classes but also offer tons of different things to keep it interesting and it works wonders for me. My place is no gym full of machines. Just big open space with lots of torture gear.
I offer Suspension Training classes, Kettlebell Classes, Boot Camp classes, Hard Core High Intensity Boot Camp classes, Guys Only Small group programs and ladies only small group programs. Oh, I am the only person instructing all of these! Time to do some hiring. Any advice on finding reliable employees?
Then I package everything together with a nutrition and lifestyle program for the big bang.
This works wonders for me. Just today I announced some free barbecued burgers and a few other goodies at my new fitness facility and I do not own a barbecue yet or have a clue what all I will have this Saturday coming up. Looks like 200 people will be attending. Talk about putting myself on the line! haha
Great post Super Trainer!
Great post.
It’s been happening for a while and what we should all be doing is setting the future, not adjusting to it when it changes.
Top fitness professionals will change, adapt and continue prospering while health clubs bring in boot camps and do them at a much lower quality.
And I hope you’re not the gym trying to lower prices so you can “compete”, are you?
You do have to differentiate yourself and be TMA (Top of Mind Awareness) for your niche in your area and put yourself in the category of 1 like Sam talks about.
Richard, shoot me an email if you want some advice on hiring good trainers.

How do I transition my clients from the lower charge of ‘boot camps’ to the higher cost of small group? Struggling…
