Google is about to make it biggest change yet to the search engines and this is going to affect almost every boot camp and fitness marketer.
According to news Google plans to penalize sites, which are optimized for SEO in a way that they have allowed previously
Any company that relies more on search engine optimization techniques rather than high quality content on their website will be affected and start to see their rankings drop in the next two weeks and maybe within the next month.

The purpose is to “level the playing field,” Cutts said. To give sites that have great content a better shot at ranking above sites that have content that is not as great but do a better job with SEO.”
Matt Cutts is a Google engineer and is the face of SEO for Google. This is about the only way information from Google about SEO is spread to small businesses.
His comments came at a recent meeting held in March 2102 and the audio of this conversation by reading and clicking on the article reported by C-NET link above.
Also Wall Street Journal reported a breaking story on March 15,2012
Here is and extract
“Beyond Blue Links!
From the story, we learn things such as:
Over the next few months, Google’s search engine will begin spitting out more than a list of blue Web links. It will also present more facts and direct answers to queries at the top of the search-results page.
And:
The company is aiming to provide more relevant results by incorporating technology called “semantic search,” which refers to the process of understanding the actual meaning of words.”
But it does not stop there. Google official website in February 2012 showed 40 changes Google made to its search engine algorithm.
One of the changes talks about anchor text links. Anchor text links are links that generally contain your keyword that point to your site from other sites. The more links you have the higher you rank.

Google said that they are reconsidering the impact of anchor text links in the ranking changes. No one in the search community know exactly what this means as yet or what is the impact of these changes may mean to a websites ranking.
So what does this mean to you as a boot camp and fitness trainer who has a website and relies on this for high quality leads?
Be prepared for a wild ride over the next few weeks and the months ahead.
Just remember nothing in life works in a straight line. We are going to have obstacles and stumbling block that is going to test us. How we respond to this is what makes us professionals in what we do and winners to our clients and our business.
So before these new changes hit and unleash a firestorm on your boot camp website here is what you should be doing now to face this head on and be on top.
1. Quality of Content www.FitnessMarketingResources.com
The most important step to avoid this pending Google slap is to add quality content to your website every single day.
Here is a good rule of thumb. If you site is less than a year old and you have less than 100 pages of content on your site, then you should add a page of unique content a day
I know this may seem unrealistic or not fair but that is what is required.
Add high quality content a day will get you more traffic and you will be unaffected by this changes.
If you have more than a hundred pages of content on your website then 2-3 pages of content a week will work.
The $67,000 question is what is high quality content?
According to the article by the wall street journal, Google is focusing more on semantic related text to determine quality of content. It is also looking at whether a users question is answered and which sites gives the best experience.
To make this non-technical, the quality of your content should be written in a manner that it answers the search query someone types into the Google index and is of value to the user.
If you are writing cheap articles by some firm in India and when a potential searcher sees the first few lines and bounce off your site, then your site rankings will be impacted.
Google will collect the history of user experience and decide on what to do from there.
The days of content that does not add any value are almost over.
If the content is not engaging, useful and insightful and the reader does not spend time reading that content your seo rankings will be affected.
Here is a simple rule of thumb – if you think the article is not value or something you would send in a email to your clients, then do not put that up on your blog.
And please make sure you add content on a consistent regular basis

2. Back linking Your site for higher search rankings:
If you are adding backlinks to your site either yourself or using an outsource company and the rate of adding links are high compared to the amount of content you adding to your site, you may be penalized.
You see the smart engineers at Google have figured out and called this over optimization. How can you get more links at a faster rate than adding content?
So watch the rate at which you add backlinks to your website.
The second important consideration is to make sure you are building a brand. You will hear more of this in the months ahead.
Building a brand is all about diversifying your backlinks. Backlinks should have a good mix of domain name, your brand names as well as your anchor text as your keywords. If you only adding keywords as the anchor text it could trigger to the goggle bot that you are over-optimizing your site.
I realize that this may be more technical information than you can handle.
My belief is that this change is significant and going to impact us either positively or negatively.
Irrespective of what happens, adding good high quality content on a regular basis is the best way to avoid this.
And forget about black hat and grey hat link building techniques when it comes your business website.
It is your business and livelihood and you should do everything in your power to build it the right way so that it works as an asset and lead generation tool now and into the future
