A New Manifesto For A New Age: THE WHISTLEBLOWER REPORT 2.0 IS COMING!!!

Something funny happened recently, and in the process I had a major breakthrough … PFP Magazine just asked me to write an article on managing your finances for personal trainers, or something to that effect – And there’s something that putting your thoughts down on a page does for your thinking, because in the process of putting my article together, I had one of those moments of clarity that you only get a few times a year, if at all – It made me realize it was time, and gave me the inspiration for a new manifesto for the personal training industry – Because even though I’ve looked to blow the whistle and show you what’s really going on through this blog, and with my last WHISTLEBLOWER REPORT, a lot has changed in the past year since I wrote it – I’ve changed, the world has changed, and so has the industry … That’s why it’s time for a new manifesto (and this time it’s going to be a video): THE WHISTLEBLOWER 2.0 FREE WEB VIDEO COMING SOON! The last Whistleblower changed a lot of lives and started a movement – this one’s going to shatter some realities, uncover more [...]

BIG-TIME “DREAM-SETTING” FOR PERSONAL TRAINERS WITH SHELBY MURPHY (taking a look at PFP Magazine)!!!

Posted on 20. Mar, 2009 by .

If you follow the blog, you know I’m against most industry stuff – most of it is rhetoric to hold up the status quo … and that status quo is trainers getting jerked around in the big gyms, making less than 30 grand a year, and forced to abandon PT and go into other boring careers – all in a career that pays on average, 75 bucks an hour – in my mind, that’s not going to cut it anymore … But one magazine that really “gets” training at its best is Personal Fitness Professional Magazine.  They’re the only mag that I really pay attention to, and the only one that I’d consider writing for.   This credit has to go to the editor Shelby Murphy.  She just put up a real cool video on the PFP home page called Stepping Up.   I found it excellent because just like the magazine as a whole, Shelby “gets it” too – she’s calling for us to pursue our absolute highest dreams and view Personal Training as part of that larger mission – here’s her video: Ha! Not what you usually hear, huh?  That one really got me psyched and thinking big! Here’s the [...]

GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND DO IT!!! A Super-Trainer CASE STUDY and SUCCESS STORY (Learn the step-by-step process of getting out of the gym and going solo right now)!!!

I’m kind of blown away sometimes by the feedback this blog has got … It started as a way for me to get attention and learn from a few other people, and it’s turned into something real crazy … What I’m even more blow away by is the stories of people that have taken action based on the info they’ve gotten here, and have done some amazing things with it.  Everyone tells me they have more clarity, purpose, and are accomplishing more in weeks and months than they have in years and years because of the insights and tactics they’ve learned here.  I love that part – And even better is when every now and then, one of my newsletters or blog RSS’s bounce back because the trainer doesn’t work for that crappy gym where he had an email accout any more – Hahaha! Not a real testimonial, but twice as good!

THE THREE KEYS TO SUCCESS AS AN INDEPENDENT PERSONAL TRAINER!!! Get These Three Things Right, And Everything Else Will Fall In Line …

Wow, it feels like for the past few months all I’ve been doing on the blog is promoting stuff – either other people’s or my own … It’s time to get back to what this blog is known for – the real world strategies it takes to get out of the gym and gain leverage as an independent Personal Trainer. On thinking over the subject recently, I was able to boil it down to three things. This is what separates the winners from the losers in this business.  You might think it’s over-simplified to condense it all into 3 strategies, but if you get them right, it’s hard to see how you could screw it up.

PERSONAL TRAINERS and the INTERNET!!! The ULTIMATE LOVE/HATE Relationship!!!

Posted on 27. Feb, 2009 by .

What is it with trainers and the web? Mastering how to market yourself on the Internet is what can really set you free as a Personal Trainer.   It’s how you can get an endless stream of clients … That’s because most potential personal training clients  are glued to their computers all day, every day.  They use them all the time for everything; that’s why they need a trainer in the first place! I’m not sure if everyone knows it, but starting a high-level Personal Training website and Web Marketing was covered in detail in the INDEPENDENT TRAINER program. There was no fluff, only the basics on how to get your site to rank first in google, run a targeted PPC (pay-per-click) campaign, score big with free classified advertising … it’s all there, mapped out in detail along with my own case studies.

PERSONAL TRAINING AND CASH FLOW – Looking at the Business Roles of a Personal Trainer:Where do YOU fit in???

Posted on 14. Feb, 2009 by .

Hey, have you heard the saying “books aren’t meant to be read, they’re meant to be re-read”? Well anyway, I dusted off my old copy of Rich Dad Poor Dad’s CASH FLOW QUADRANT by Robert Kiyosaki … It’s a monumentally valuable book by the way – ignore the fact that it’s more commercial than Britney Spears. Whoa – this time around the book hit me upside the head – it really gave me a lot of insight into how I do business and it’ll probably do the same for you: how your work life is organized, your views on, and passion for, Personal Training, and the debate on the different roles of a trainer.

THE DEFINITION OF CLIENT FOR PERSONAL TRAINERS: A New Way to Look At The Trainer/Client Relationship …

Posted on 20. Jan, 2009 by .

I know for the most part you don’t have to spend much time thinking about what a client is – they’re the person that pays you, simple as that, right? We’re always talking about how to get more clients, how to charge more, or how to keep them happy. Nothing wrong with that – this a blog for trainers after all … But have you ever though about what “client” means? There was a neat definition to the word I saw a while back that really blew me away. I always try to keep it in mind. It gives you a very clear idea of what your real responsibilities are as a trainer, and what’s expected out of you as part of this profession. This definition was put forward by the marketing guru Jay Abraham in his book Get Everything You Can Out of All You Got. Here’s how he defined a client:

ARNOLD TALKS TRAINING!!! The Governator Describes His Experience as a Personal Trainer (and it isn’t pretty!)

You might not have known this, but before he was Mr.Universe, Mr. Olympia, the biggest action star in the world, and the Governator, Arnold was a Personal Trainer! Yeah he started out just like us, turning his passion into money – But what’s real funny is he HATED it!!! He describes the experience in this quote I found from his book. What you get is a really candid and ironic take on the job. Here’s the quote: “Managing a health club was an entirely new experience. I was supposed to be a trainer, to show people how to exercise, to devise programs which would make them lose fat and rebuild their bodies.

SUCCESS and DOING WHAT YOU LOVE – Special Guest Post by Personal Trainer Dave Parise (talking about the fallacy of hard work and the “10 year rule”)

Posted on 26. Dec, 2008 by .

MERRY CHRISTMAS! Hope you had a healthy and happy one – my gift was getting to take a week off from writing a blog post. That was thanks to Dave Parise, because right now I’m going to re-gift the excellent post he made on the brand new Super-Trainer Forum. This post was pure magic, and I had to give it the credit it deserved. It was all about the issue of natural talent vs. the importance of mastery of something you love. The truth is very few us are born perfect (see picture on left). Everyone else, no matter who you’re talking about, had to put in a tremendous amount of effort before they reached the top of their game.

“HOW MUCH SHOULD I CHARGE FOR MY TRAINING?” Let’s Explore Everything That Relates to Price In Personal Training …

Posted on 21. Nov, 2008 by .

34

How much should you charge for your training sessions? I once heard that price is relative to the cost of everything else on sale in the marketplace – well with Personal Training it gets even more tricky than that. That’s because training is an intangible service that’s highly dependent on the person delivering it (the trainer, ie YOU) That’s what this blog is about by the way – if the product is YOU, then no one should be telling you how much to charge or be steeling any of your money. Dumping the gym is the first step to getting paid what you’re worth. Back on subject, your rates aren’t dependent on the number of certifications you have, the kind-of shape you’re in, or how many years you’ve been a trainer. These are all factors that influence the price, but they don’t determine it.

“THE ART OF THE DEAL” FOR PERSONAL TRAINERS: Making Deals to Get More Training Clients

Posted on 07. Nov, 2008 by .

As you already know, the The Art of the Deal was the title of the first of the series of self-promoting books by Donald Trump. In it he talks about his big deals with other major moguls and players on the New York scene. But making deals isn’t something reserved just for people in real estate. As a Personal Trainer, it’s something you need to get good at too. Some people might consider that “work”, but I consider it a perk. You get to deal with people of all levels as part of being a Personal Trainer. This of course makes you a much more competent and confident person. These are qualities you’ll carry for the rest of your professional life.
