PERSONAL TRAINER HIRING PART THREE: RULES TO LIVE BY
Posted on 20. Jan, 2010 by Kaiser.
I’ve got a nice piece of advice that’s totally free … Whenever your hesitant about something – when you feel like you can’t do it, are under-qualified, overwhelmed, or inexperienced, the best thing to do is learn everything you can about it. Get total immersion in the subject – pick up a few books, learn from others, and get off your ass and go into some unfamiliar environments, and you’ll be very surprised at how clear the once impossible becomes for you. That was my goal with this series on HIRING FOR PERSONAL TRAINERS. It was to bring you some immersion on this important subject. Oh, and I know there are a few fool hardy trainers out there that had no fear to start hiring, but are probably grossly unaware of some of the challenges in it – I hope this series brought some insight to them as well. You will be amazed at how much you grow as a business person and find out about yourself and your own character once you make the move to start hiring. Not to mention this is the ONLY way you can start to leverage your time and still make sure the public [...]

EVERYTHING I KNOW ABOUT THE FITNESS BUSINESS I LEARNED FROM WATCHING FANTASY AND SCI-FI MOVIES …
Posted on 07. Jan, 2010 by Kaiser.
You’ll never catch me at a COMIC-CON convention … But sci-fi and fantasy movies are some of the most powerful mythology we have today (call this sad if you will). While we enjoy them as escapist entertainment, remember that they are the products of the work of hundreds of brilliant people in probably the most competitive industry in the world. And also considering that the creators of these movies have based their stories on timeless narratives coming from some of the world’s best thinkers, there’s a lot you can learn from them. If the FITNESS BUSINESS is your “game worth playing” (see THE UGNL), then many of these lessons will apply to you. Just like the characters in these movies, we’re each on our own hero’s journey. And I’ll say it again: I can’t imagine another career that allows you to become an entrepreneur and grow yourself, your personal skills, and your business skills, better and faster than personal training. Nothing I’m going to share with you in this post is all that earth shattering, or something that you probably didn’t already observe yourself. I just want to send out a reminder that the messages in these films are more [...]

THE ART OF BEING AVERAGE: How You Can Be Great Once You STOP Trying To Do Your Best …
Posted on 28. Dec, 2009 by Kaiser.
You know, most of my blog posts are written for YOU, to help you make good on what’s possible in Personal Training, based on info I learned from in the trenches, scratching and clawing my way to make things work whether it was in a big-box gym, running a 42 location training department, or pumping out sessions in my studio … But this one is half for you, and half for ME, because it talks about some personal insights I’ve had into productivity lately, and the biggest lessons I’ve been learning as part of it. Just like Cinderella, PRODUCTIVITY has two evil “P-word” step-sisters, PROCRASTINATION and PERFECTIONISM. They are the biggest obstacles you have to your entrepreneurial life (yes, if you are a solo trainer, you are officially an entrepreneur so congrats!). Ha – I remember when my biggest enemies were the other “prep school gangsters” in downtown New York. Now I fight daily against intangible, formless, and inhuman demons that would make the boys from Lord Of The Rings drop a brick. But seriously, this is the profound insight I had … That we often screw ourselves up by trying to do our best. Trying to do our best [...]

Dave Parise Talks TOP-LEVEL TRAINING …
Posted on 04. Sep, 2009 by Kaiser.
For all you you other trainers out there that are old enough to remember 80′s television, we really had some action hits … There was the Incredible Hulk, The Amazing Spider-Man,the A-Team, and just too many more shows to count that probably shaped our addiction to action, speed, and muscle. Among these shows was one I loved in Particular, The Six Million Dollar Man, about a jet pilot horribly injured in a test run; they rebuilt him out of robotic parts into a super, prototype crime fighter with amazing strength, speed, and power. In Personal Training, there’s one guy that conjures up the same images, a prototype star with super powers, on a mission of his own, and that’s my buddy Dave Parise. Dave wasn’t born – he was assembled from the parts of past great trainers. He runs a high end training studio doing over a million a year in sales, so you could call him the million dollar man, but what’s even more impressive is how he does it … He does it without running a boiler room type sales organization – no pushy sales tactics, no aggressive marketing, no high priced info products. Simply high level service, [...]
