YOUR PRIVATE TRAINING AGREEMENT | Do It Right, And Personal Training Freedom And Success Awaits | Answering Reader Mail

If you’re looking to make your break from a hell-hole big-box gym, one of the fastest and easiest ways is through a deal with an existing private gym.  These places are usually short on good trainers, don’t have a clue on how to sell training (so they don’t even bother), and have a hugely under-served market.  If you’re good at selling sessions in a big gym, getting into to one of these places is like shooting candy from a baby in a barrel. This also saves you the trouble of having to make a website or market your services in your area.  Marketing can be the most time-consuming, “scary”, costly, and highest learning curve parts of doing business for a trainer, and making a deal with a private gym allows you to skip this step. Here’s why: The clients are already there, you just have to bring them in. You just have to understand basic relationship-based personal training sales and some creative in-gym marketing, and you’ll find yourself booked beyond belief. Yes, if you want to make an immediate move to private training, double your income while cutting your hours, not have a boss, and control your own ship, this [...]

Personal Training: When Is It The Right Time To DUMP THE GYM For Good?

Personal Training: When Is It The Right Time To DUMP THE GYM For Good?

What’s always surprised me most about the success stories I hear coming in on the blog is how quickly and abruptly everyone takes action.  These guys and gals all pick and burn the bridges once they find out about the world of Personal Training out there that doesn’t involve training in a big-box health-club.  No sleazy bosses, negative co-workers, and crappy pay?  Yes it’s a reality, and I guess once it becomes clear that it’s possible, there’s no going back. But the answer to “when’s the right time?” is different for everyone.  Every situation is different, and even though action needs to be taken fast, it’s relative. For example, here’s an email I just got from a long time reader of the blog Jeff.  Looking at his delicate situation will bring to light to anyone that’s also looking to plan their health-club exit and start their training business. Hi Kaiser I need the input of a professional with your knowledge. Here is my dilema. i consider today day 1 of my conquest to become a top level trainer with my purchase of your material. My cousin Sam and i just got off the phone. i train at 24 hr right [...]

THE “BUSINESS” OF PERSONAL TRAINING: TALKING TO KELLI CALABRESE ABOUT GETTING SERIOUS IN FITNESS (listen to the in-depth audio of our conversation – new updated audio)

Didn’t we just finish talking about how Personal Training wasn’t a business?!?! Yeah, but we’re going to shift gears and get down to BUSINESS – we’re going to talk about getting serious about fitness! Even though this blog is about passion and lifestyle, at a certain point you’ve got to make a decision: “Are you going to be a player, or are you going to keep riding the bench?” I got the chance to pick the brain of a lady that’s made a career of kicking trainers in the pants and reminding them to wake-up – Kelli Calabrese.

MAKING THE JUMP! Talking to Marc Lebert, the da Vinci of Fitness, About Life After PERSONAL TRAINING …

It’s a little weird talking about life after training. That’s cuz I’m still very much in the midst of it, making great money at it and loving every minute. But for me and I’ve got to say for everyone else, Personal Training is part of a growth process. You could say Super-Trainer’s been part of my growth process, exposing me to new ideas in training and I hope it’s giving you the same thing too. But once you’ve established yourself as a trainer and have a high-level training practice that’s pumping on all cylinders, that’s still not the end. Like I talk about in The Whistleblower Report it’s just the beginning. You’ll now be in a really unique position to move on to even greater things in the training industry. What those greater things are is up to you … that’s what I call THE JUMP. To talk about this subject I wanted to bring on a trainer who’s made that JUMP in multiple areas: Marc Lebert. Marc’s best known as the inventor of the Lebert Equalizer, but that’s just one of the fitness projects he’s involved in. With all the things Marc’s got going on, you’d have to call [...]

FINDING YODA: MY CONVERSATION WITH GUNNAR PETERSON – Talking to the man that got me serious about Personal Training (listen to the full audio).

It took almost three weeks of back and forth, speaking through assistants and balancing time-zones. I didn’t have any friends in common with the man, so it was a shot in the dark, but one day while sitting in a Starbucks, I got what I was looking for: my phone rang and the person on the other end said “Hello Kaiser, this is Gunnar Peterson!”. I know every single person reading this blog knows who I’m talking about; for all purposes, Gunnar’s the face of the Personal Training industry. He lives in a Hollywood Hills Mansion and is as much a celebrity as many of the stars he trains. Besides speaking to someone with such notoriety in this business, for me the thrill was even more significant: I was talking to the man who basically got me started and serious about Personal Training in the first place.

MIKE BOYLE ON RUNNING A TRAINING BUSINESS – Find out how Mike does it (audio clip from our conversation).

Some trainers, even the most knowledgeable ones, often get too caught up in the training part of this profession. They think that just additional training knowledge will break them out of the ruts they’re suffering through in their careers. While noone will argue whether a strong background in training is a must, at some point you need to think critically about this as a business. You’ve got to think not only about your body of knowledge, but about your career as well, or you’re never going to have the type of lifestyle that should typify someone in the fitness industry. For me, the breakthrough came when thinking about my own personal image, positioning, and marketing. But on a much bigger scale, I recently got to pick the brain of a guy running not just a private practice, but what could be called a training empire touching nearly every area of Personal Training, Mike Boyle.

Not Your Usual Path To RIPPED ABS: Greetings From Bangladesh!

Posted on 27. Nov, 2007 by .

Just got back from my two week journey to my homeland of Bangladesh. I call it journey rather than a vacation because the experience was far different than say, a trip to Miami. Yeah, it was hot, but insane traffic conditions, pollution, and extreme poverty isn’t what most people would call getting away. I’m not exaggerating, but I have to say it wasn’t all bad; a lot of good came out of the trip for me; without a doubt it was the most life-changing trip of my life For someone like me born and raised in the US, I can’t put the culture shock into words. The family I have over there is very well off, but that’s just relative; no-matter where you are it’s still surreal and can’t be compared to life here. For example, outside of the luxury condo where I was staying with my uncle and cousins, on one day I watched as the door-to-door chicken salesman was skinning one of his live chickens for his customers. At least it was a fresh source of protein! Despite a dangerous and uncertain way of life, the people were very proud and good spirited. This part amazed me; how [...]
