THE ART OF BEING AVERAGE: How You Can Be Great Once You STOP Trying To Do Your Best …
Posted on 28. Dec, 2009 by Kaiser.
You know, most of my blog posts are written for YOU, to help you make good on what’s possible in Personal Training, based on info I learned from in the trenches, scratching and clawing my way to make things work whether it was in a big-box gym, running a 42 location training department, or pumping out sessions in my studio … But this one is half for you, and half for ME, because it talks about some personal insights I’ve had into productivity lately, and the biggest lessons I’ve been learning as part of it. Just like Cinderella, PRODUCTIVITY has two evil “P-word” step-sisters, PROCRASTINATION and PERFECTIONISM. They are the biggest obstacles you have to your entrepreneurial life (yes, if you are a solo trainer, you are officially an entrepreneur so congrats!). Ha – I remember when my biggest enemies were the other “prep school gangsters” in downtown New York. Now I fight daily against intangible, formless, and inhuman demons that would make the boys from Lord Of The Rings drop a brick. But seriously, this is the profound insight I had … That we often screw ourselves up by trying to do our best. Trying to do our best [...]

THE FATHER OF THE E-BOOK: CRAIG BALLANTYNE!!! Talking To The Leader In the Business of Online Fitness (Listen to the in-depth audio)!!!
Posted on 08. Apr, 2009 by Kaiser.
It’s funny how our little personal training and fitness world works … … because although he’d never get recognized at the mall, I talked to a guy recently who’s an absolute celebrityCraig Ballantyne. to trainers worldwide (and just like any celebrity, almost everyone has something to say about him) – In some way or another we all know who Craig is – whether you’re working on an e-book, attending conferences, or just hating on him for making money doing basically the same thing you might be doing 12 hours a day for peanuts; Craig’s a guy that’s very active in this business and known by and friends with most of the people at the top of it. What Craig’s famous for is bringing the e-book mainstream to a new generation of young trainers that have used him for help or inspiration in their own online efforts. His reach is much larger than e-books now, with his original project, Turbulence Trainingmembership and community component to it, and Craig now heavily involved as a business coach in all the areas of online training, from e-books, to membership sites, to oline promotion. now with a huge Here’s the audio from our conversation: (I [...]

BIG-TIME “DREAM-SETTING” FOR PERSONAL TRAINERS WITH SHELBY MURPHY (taking a look at PFP Magazine)!!!
Posted on 20. Mar, 2009 by Kaiser.
If you follow the blog, you know I’m against most industry stuff – most of it is rhetoric to hold up the status quo … and that status quo is trainers getting jerked around in the big gyms, making less than 30 grand a year, and forced to abandon PT and go into other boring careers – all in a career that pays on average, 75 bucks an hour – in my mind, that’s not going to cut it anymore … But one magazine that really “gets” training at its best is Personal Fitness Professional Magazine. They’re the only mag that I really pay attention to, and the only one that I’d consider writing for. This credit has to go to the editor Shelby Murphy. She just put up a real cool video on the PFP home page called Stepping Up. I found it excellent because just like the magazine as a whole, Shelby “gets it” too – she’s calling for us to pursue our absolute highest dreams and view Personal Training as part of that larger mission – here’s her video: Ha! Not what you usually hear, huh? That one really got me psyched and thinking big! Here’s the [...]

HANGING WITH BIG-TIME PERSONAL TRAINER SAM BAKHTIAR!!! Watch All Three Killer Videos About Sam’s Business (and take out a notepad and prepare to be schooled)!
Posted on 17. Mar, 2009 by 7Figure Sam.
We’ve had some big time trainers on here – people that have set great examples we can learn from and lessons we can apply to our own businesses. But right now, we have a trainer that takes the cake – Dr. Sam Bakhtiar! In terms of running a successful business and doing it in a way that we can learn from and apply to what we do, he’s really the master. If you’ve never heard of Sam, that’s because he’s actually doing it in the real world instead of talking about it online. Him and his business are an example of the balance in practice and service, operations and marketing that it takes to “get” this Personal Training thing. If I’m raving a little bit about this guy, it’s because I’ve done enough things in different places to appreciate what Sam has accomplished as a Personal trainer and the level he’s taken this game to.

PERSONAL TRAINING AND CASH FLOW – Looking at the Business Roles of a Personal Trainer:Where do YOU fit in???
Posted on 14. Feb, 2009 by Kaiser.
Hey, have you heard the saying “books aren’t meant to be read, they’re meant to be re-read”? Well anyway, I dusted off my old copy of Rich Dad Poor Dad’s CASH FLOW QUADRANT by Robert Kiyosaki … It’s a monumentally valuable book by the way – ignore the fact that it’s more commercial than Britney Spears. Whoa – this time around the book hit me upside the head – it really gave me a lot of insight into how I do business and it’ll probably do the same for you: how your work life is organized, your views on, and passion for, Personal Training, and the debate on the different roles of a trainer.

Where FUN And FITNESS Collide!!! Talking to Underground Strength Coach ZACH EVEN-ESH about fitness SUCCESS! (watch the screen-capture of our hard-hitting conversation)
Posted on 03. Feb, 2009 by Kaiser.
I got on the phone recently with a guy that’s the living example of everything we talk about here on Super-Trainer – crazy man Zach Even-esh. By crazy, I mean only the workouts that you’ll find going on at his gym and see online in his videos. When it comes to business, Zach’s crazy like a fox, with his practice growing by leaps and bounds in the past couple of years, and with more big projects on the way. He’s got his hand in a little bit of everything – watching him you’ll see how to take an area of fitness you love, and put it out to the world through multiple-channels.

CRIME PAYS!!! Looking At the “HUSTLE” of Personal Training – The gangster mind-set it takes to succeed in fitness …
Posted on 25. Jan, 2009 by Kaiser.
This blog is all about showing you the potential in Personal Training. The fact is not everyone’s slaving at a big-box health-club! There are some trainers that aren’t working in the typical gym setting – they’re doing it on their own, earning tremendous incomes and living outstanding lifestyles. But we’re going to shift gears for a minute and talk about a different career track: organized crime! Have you ever noticed how organized crime is glorified in entertainment and the media? Stop and think about some of the most popular movies of all time: Scarface, Pulp Fiction, The Departed, Ocean’s 11. The list could go on and on. Have you ever asked yourself why?

ARNOLD TALKS TRAINING!!! The Governator Describes His Experience as a Personal Trainer (and it isn’t pretty!)
Posted on 12. Jan, 2009 by Kaiser.
You might not have known this, but before he was Mr.Universe, Mr. Olympia, the biggest action star in the world, and the Governator, Arnold was a Personal Trainer! Yeah he started out just like us, turning his passion into money – But what’s real funny is he HATED it!!! He describes the experience in this quote I found from his book. What you get is a really candid and ironic take on the job. Here’s the quote: “Managing a health club was an entirely new experience. I was supposed to be a trainer, to show people how to exercise, to devise programs which would make them lose fat and rebuild their bodies.

TRANSFORMATION: RIDING THIS PERSONAL TRAINING THING STRAIGHT TO THE TOP!!!
Posted on 09. Jul, 2008 by Kaiser.
You can’t reach your full potential selling CHEESE PUFFS – I’ll tell you what I mean by that in a second …. But when I’m talking about reaching your full potential, I mean TRANSFORMATION: going from who you are now to the person you want to be. Personal Training is unique because it can be the vehicle – I just recorded a little video explaining this idea: [youtube nDW5C71rUEY nolink]

MIKE BOYLE ON RUNNING A TRAINING BUSINESS – Find out how Mike does it (audio clip from our conversation).
Posted on 24. Jan, 2008 by Kaiser.
Some trainers, even the most knowledgeable ones, often get too caught up in the training part of this profession. They think that just additional training knowledge will break them out of the ruts they’re suffering through in their careers. While noone will argue whether a strong background in training is a must, at some point you need to think critically about this as a business. You’ve got to think not only about your body of knowledge, but about your career as well, or you’re never going to have the type of lifestyle that should typify someone in the fitness industry. For me, the breakthrough came when thinking about my own personal image, positioning, and marketing. But on a much bigger scale, I recently got to pick the brain of a guy running not just a private practice, but what could be called a training empire touching nearly every area of Personal Training, Mike Boyle.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SPECIALIZING: TALKING TO BRIAN SCHIFF – Brian talks about his specialty and how it relates to every part of his business (listen to the audio).
Posted on 19. Dec, 2007 by Kaiser.
At my barbershop recently I observed an interesting phenomenon. All the barbers there will cut the hair of anybody that walks in the door. Every new customer is an adventure in haircutting for them, and I think that’s what holds them to $12 per haircut and such long hours – it’s the lack of specialization. A lot of trainers are the same way; they’ll train anyone that walks in the door. For that reason, most of them probably earn much less than my barber. They train whoever they’re assigned, and it could be someone different every hour. They think this allows them to see more clients and add to their incomes, but what it really does is hold them back and leads to their failure. Brian Schiffis a trainer who’ll never leave you questioning his specialty. He’s one of the most well known and accomplished trainers in the country (named one of Men’s Journal‘s “Top 100 Trainers in America”) , and his specialty is Sports Specific Training. Also a physical therapist, he’s accumulated so much knowledge and credentials in this area that he’s developed a tremendous leadership position.
