TIME IS FREE, BUT IT’S PRICELESS. YOU CAN’T OWN IT, BUT YOU CAN USE IT. YOU CAN’T KEEP IT, BUT YOU CAN SPEND IT. ONCE YOU’VE LOST IT, YOU CAN NEVER GET IT BACK. – HARVEY MACKAY Fitness trainers spend all this time working out package pricing for their prospects and calculating their income based on new sign-ups. They labor endlessly online to track metrics like website bounce rates or the time people spend on their websites. These metrics are all important ways of measuring how successful your business is, of course, but are you measuring the most important metric of all? If you knew what your time was worth, maybe you’d think twice before shooting the sh*t with your coworker over coffee and donuts for 45 minutes instead of focusing on your business. If you knew what your time was worth, maybe you would tell your sister you really can’t talk during work hours when she calls to tell you about the latest “crisis” of being unable to find the right outfit for her work function. If you knew what your time was worth, you’d spend less time examining your physique in the mirror and more time out [...]

Usually when the word HERD is used one thinks of a large group of animals. In this case, that large group of animals is your customer base. After building your list you want to produce a responsive and loyal herd of customers. You know, ones that stick with you like a herd of sheep or coyote. Ok, well not as slow as sheep or as mean as coyote, but you get what I mean. Keep on reading about how you can create your herd. Personality is the first component in developing a responsive herd. Some business experts argue against creating a brand name based on personality, but in the fitness industry where you are providing a service personality is key. Your customers need to like you, your staff, and your service, period! Next, let your herd know what your fitness philosophy is. I’m not talking about how you make money, but your core beliefs about fitness. Expressing your belief is a great way to make an emotional connection and will ultimately result in your customers feeling an attachment to what you are doing. Do not sugarcoat your belief. At my gym and boot camps, customers know my exact beliefs [...]

How many times have you heard the saying, “when you put things into perspective…”? The Fitness Marketing law of perspective implies marketing strategies have both short term and long term effects. These strategies are put into perspective by the prospect’s needs, which ultimately affect your success! As entrepreneurs in the fitness industry, we tell our clients alcohol is an enemy in fitness but it’s a great example in the law of perspective. Do you think alcohol is a stimulant or depressant? It actually appears to be both. Chemically, it’s a depressant, but if you go to a club where everyone is drinking you would believe it’s a stimulant. People are drinking, laughing, dancing, and having a great time; however, observe the same people at 3:00AM and you will believe alcohol to be a depressant. Marketing strategies possess the same occurrences in that long term effects are sometimes opposite the short-term effects. Just like it’s important to be the first in the prospect’s mind, it’s also important to understand how your product or service is perceived by the prospect. Your marketing strategies put things into perspective reasoning in the mind of the prospect. For example, what is the benefit [...]

As the saying goes, “If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride.” It seems everyone has a pipe dream these days. You probably know tons of people like this. “One day, I’m going to own a bar.” “Well, I’m planning to go back to school in the fall…” “This is the spot where the flat-screen TV will go on the wall…” “I’d like to be married with children… someday…” “I’m looking for a new car.” “I’ll quit smoking when it reaches $10 a pack.” “I’d like to lose 20 pounds.” “Eventually I’ll own my own business.” They won’t own that bar because they’re renting an apartment with no equity. They won’t go back to school because they haven’t saved the money or applied anywhere. They won’t get that flat screen TV because they only work part-time and are behind in their bills. They won’t be married with children because they’re dating losers in need of “saving.” They won’t get a new car because they blow all their money on eating out and going to the movies. They won’t quit smoking when it’s $10 a pack cause they didn’t quit smoking when it reached 5. They won’t lose [...]

Erick here, and I am currently launching my first bootcamp. I was a little nervous about opening up my own bootcamp but fortunately, Sam was able to guide me though the process. I thought this would be a good opportunity to review what I have learned thus far in my journey to Bootcamp Success. Network with experts that can assist you throughout the process. If you have been in the industry long, I am sure you know a few people who can be of assistance. Some experts you will want to consult with are a Business Coach (Sam), and a Real Estate Broker. Sam has helped me tremendously in forecasting, negotiating and managing the business. Having expert advice will make your feel more at easy and allow you to focus on providing quality service. An experienced Real Estate Broker can help you locate facility opportunities that you would have over looked and help negotiate agreements to get you moved in. Even with expert advice I would still recommend reading agreements and asking questions. We are all human and we can over look details that can have serious conciseness in the future. Learn as much as you can from these experts. [...]

There are plenty of things you can do to improve your business and you’re getting a steady diet of them here at Super Trainer. Here are 11 more to add to your toolbox of business building tactics: 1. Be Great At What You Do – If you’re a crappy trainer or coach – all the marketing advice in the world won’t make up for it. Think about seeing a great ad for a restaurant. It might get up in the door for one meal, but if your meal was bad, would any amount of advertising ever get you back? 2. Networking – There is nothing better than face to face marketing. There is no postcard, e-mail or newspaper ad that can compare to talking to someone in person. Make a point of meeting several new people each day and adding them to your personal network. Get out from behind the computer and attend networking events and put yourself in more settings with people outside of your inner circle. 3. Hustle – Nothing gets done without hustle. I coach a LOT of different fitness entrepreneurs and each of them have different approaches to marketing, selling and business building, [...]
